{"id":9004111222099240,"date":"2023-06-16T20:15:33","date_gmt":"2023-06-16T20:15:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ishbelwell.com\/?p=9004111222099240"},"modified":"2023-06-16T20:15:33","modified_gmt":"2023-06-16T20:15:33","slug":"eating-for-the-phases-of-your-cycle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/designkyn.com\/gutsy-hormone\/eating-for-the-phases-of-your-cycle\/","title":{"rendered":"Eating for the phases of your cycle"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Reading <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/FLO-Unlock-Hormonal-Advantage-Revolutionize\/dp\/0062870491\">Alisa Vitti&#8217;s book, &#8220;In the Flo<\/a>,&#8221; sparked a profound awakening in me, encompassing spiritual, physical, and mental realms, particularly when it comes to embracing the eating phases of my cycle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I no longer felt alone in the struggles I&#8217;d faced with balancing my hormones. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I suddenly let go of the incessant guilt of needing a &#8220;rest&#8221; day or wondering why my brain would literally shut off around the time of my period. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you haven&#8217;t read &#8220;In the Flo&#8221; I would strongly encourage you to pick up a copy ASAP. &nbsp;&#8220;Food cycling&#8221; isn&#8217;t just for women with a menstrual cycle. &nbsp;This book is geared towards women, but I find that the knowledge in this book is truly universal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We all can benefit from cycling our food throughout the month to support gut microbiome diversity and hormonal balance. <strong>&nbsp;It takes a lot of nutrients to build hormones, and eating a varied diet throughout the month gives your body the tools it needs! &nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>As an aside&#8230; <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I&#8217;ve written this blog post specifically for my clients who are in my <a href=\"https:\/\/gutsyhormone.com\/gut-healing-foundations-program\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Gut Healing<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/gutsyhormone.com\/the-hormone-healing-program\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hormone Healing <\/a>Programs to act as an educational adjunct to the work we are doing together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a general rule, I have not found that hormone imbalances <strong><em>are not<\/em><\/strong> rectified by making these changes alone, but when combined with hormonal testing and a bio individual approach, it can be the cherry on top. Food Cycling : Eating for the phases of your cycle<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The phases of below are based off a 28 day month <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>MENSTRUAL PHASE<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(Approximately Day 1 of menstruation &#8211; Day 7)&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>&#8220;Your hormones are at their lowest levels&#8230;but you can compensate by increasing your intake of protein and healthy fats. &nbsp;Doing so will keep your energy and moods stable while your brain adjusts to the downshift in hormones.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Grains: Buckwheat (kasha), Wild Rice<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Veggies: Beets, Burdock, Dulse, Hijiki, Kale, Kelp, Kombu, Mushrooms, Wakame, Water chestnut<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fruits: Blackberry, Blueberry, Concord grape, Watermelon<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Legumes: Adzuki bean, Black soybean, Black turtle bean, Kidney bean<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nuts &amp; Seeds: Chestnut, Sesame seeds, Sunflower seeds<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>FOLLICULAR PHASE&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(Approximately Days 7 &#8211; 14)&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>&#8220;Fresh, vibrant light foods make you feel more energized during this phase&#8230;focus on those phytoestrogens&#8230;plant-based compounds that mimic the body&#8217;s natural estrogen.&#8221;&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Grains: Barley, Oat, Rye, Wheat<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Veggies: Artichoke, Broccoli, Carrot, Lettuce, Parsley, Green peas, Rhubarb, String Bean, Zucchini<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fruits: Avocado, Grapefruit, Lemon, Lime, Orange, Plum, Pomegranate, Sour cherry<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Legumes: Black-eyed pea, Green lentil, Lima bean, Mung bean, Split pea<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nuts &amp; Seeds: Brazil nuts, Cashews, Flaxseeds, Lychee, Pumpkin seeds<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>OVULATORY PHASE<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(Approximately Days 14 &#8211; 18)&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>&#8220;Ovulatory foods promote antioxidative well-being and provide vascular support&#8230;these foods will also ward off estrogen-driven symptoms, such as acne and bloating.&#8221;&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Grains: Amaranth, Corn, Quinoa<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Veggies: Asparagus, Bell pepper (red), Brussles sprouts, Chard, Chicory, Chive, Dandelion, Eggplant, Endive, Escarole, Okra, Scallion, Spinach, Tomato<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fruit: Apricot, Cantalope, Coconut, Fig, Guava, Persimmon, Raspberry, Strawberry<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Legumes: Red lentil<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nuts and Seeds: Almond, Flaxseeds, Pecan, Pistachio, Pumpkin seeds<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>LUTEAL PHASE&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(Approximately Days 19 &#8211; &nbsp;28)&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;<em>In the luteal phase, your body needs more calories&#8230;along with B vitamins to pump up the production of progesterone and to stabilize blood sugar levels&#8230;Consuming high-fiber foods&#8230;will help your liver and large intestine flush out estrogen more effectively, reducing the effects of estrogen dominance.&#8221;&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Grains: Brown rice, Millet<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Veggies: Cabbage, Cauliflower, Celery, Collard, Cucumber, Daikon, Garlic, Ginger, Leek, Mustard greens, Onion, Parsnip, Pumpkin, Radish, Squash, Sweet potato, Watercress&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fruit: Apple, Peach, Pear, Raisin, Legumes, Chickpea, Great northern bean, Navy bean<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nuts &amp; Seeds: Hickory, Pine nut, Sesame seeds, Sunflower seeds, Walnut&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Rome was not built in a day. <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As you review this list, please take the recommendations from someone who has been there &#8211;
