Dr. AJ Salcines is a board certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon with advanced training in orthognathic surgery.
Dr. AJ Salcines is a board certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon with advanced training in orthognathic surgery. Dr. Salcines graduated from Florida Christian High School and then went on to have the privilege of living out a life-long dream of being a student-athlete in the baseball program at the University of Miami. Dr. Salcines played under Coach Jim Morris and current head coach JD Arteaga. At the University of Miami, Dr. Salcines received many awards including 2012 team MVP, 2013 Male Scholar-athlete of the Year, 2014 ACC post-graduate scholarship recipient, and 2014 National Senior Award Finalist among others. Dr. Salcines graduated the from the University of Miami Magna Cum Laude in 2014. His time and experience at the University of Miami laid the foundation for him to continue his education and training.
Dr. Salcines received his Doctor of Dental Medicine (D.M.D.) from Harvard University. The Harvard curriculum included two years of didactic work completely integrated with Harvard Medical School. During his time at Harvard, he was engaged in active research which led to many peer-reviewed publications and presentations at conferences. For his efforts, he was awarded The Laskin Award in 2019 which recognizes the most outstanding article published in the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery each year.
After completing dental school, Dr. Salcines continued his training in a six-year Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency program at Columbia University Medical Center-New York Presbyterian Hospital. During that time, he continued his education and received his Medical Degree (M.D.) from Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons and also completed a full year of general surgery training. In his final year of residency, he served as Chief Resident of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
After residency, Dr. Salcines continued his training in a 1-year fellowship in Advanced Orthognathic Surgery at Alfi Oral, Dental Implant & Facial Surgery in Houston, Texas, where he focused on custom-guided jaw surgery and airway procedures for sleep apnea.
The extensive training completed, and experience gained allows Dr. Salcines to offer the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery services, including wisdom teeth, dental implants, pathology, TMJ, sleep apnea, and corrective jaw surgery.
Dr. Salcines became a doctor to due to his commitment to help others. He believes in spending time to connect with his patients and develop a lasting relationship. Outside of work, Dr. Salcines enjoys being a part of the community he grew up in. He enjoys spending time with his wife, Claudia, and daughter Ally. He also remains a Miami sports fan – specifically to his alma mater – The Miami Hurricanes.
